2013 SUMMER MATH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Summer Math Enrichment Online Instruction (Study Island)

Grades 4 - 8

Recognizing the importance of accelerating the SHS Math Program as welll as the importance of mathematics in preparing our students for their place in our global society, we are pleased to be included in the STUDY ISLAND extended learning opportunity in the Diocese of Paterson. In the past, we have used an optional summer math packet prepared by our teachers to help our students keep their math skills current. This summer, our students entering Grades 4-8 will have an in school orientation to practice using the program and will be ready to take charge of their math review over the summer.

To clarify any confusion, below are the expectations of the program:

1. Each child will be given a pre-test before we end this school year.
2. Each grade will have a personalized plan for math work to be done on the STUDY ISLAND program. This plan will enable each student to maintain the mathematic skills learned during the school year and be ready for new work in September.
3. Each child will be given a post-test the first week of school in September.
4. Each child will be given a grade for the work done throughout the summer.
5. The time commitment will vary for individual students but it should be a minimum of 15 hours over the course of the summer. Additional time spent will advance the student in math.

We know that you are excited to begin this educational program. Each child in Grades 4-8 will be introduced to he program relevant to their grade.
